Greetings from the corner of my couch! I thought I would dabble in the art of blogging to share stories, devotionals, ideas for crafts, gifts/goodie bags, and decorating, and maybe even a recipe or two. So, why did I name this blog The Unhyped Life? Well, I’m glad you asked.
Hyped is certainly not a characteristic I’ve ever been described as, nor have I ever been one to “bring the hype.” I’m the quintessential introvert. I prefer deep thinking, one-on-one conversions, observing, quality over quantity, and of course, alone-time to recharge (rest is never a waste of time). I excel at listening and learning (math was my best subject in school). I don’t like large crowds or small talk. I’m demotivated by competition and definitely prefer the arts (especially dance!) over sports.
If you are familiar with the different personality type tests, I’m classified as:
-The Four Temperaments: Melancholy-dominant with some Phlegmatic traits, which are the two introvert types. (I have zero traits of the extrovert types – Sanguine and Choleric.)
-Myers-Briggs: INTJ – “The Architect” – Represents only about 2% of the population and is considered the rarest among women.
-Enneagram: 5 – “The Investigator” or “The Observer” – Also considered the rarest among women and rarest in general.
- (Side Note: I do think it’s worthwhile to study the above-mentioned personality types as they are validating and can help you understand yourself and others better. However, they cannot fully describe someone because each one of us is completely unique. You’re the only you there is!)
As you can see, my personality is in the minority, especially in Western culture where extroversion is king. God purposefully designed all the personality types (including yours!) – if we would only use them the way He intended us to. I hope this blog inspires you to use your personality, gifts, and talents – no matter how unhyped they may seem – to be a blessing to the world around you!
